Why is proof reading important?

In business in particular, the promotion of any product or service can be compromised by even minor errors in spelling, grammar or syntax, and major transgressions in any of these can lead to disaster. Potential clients will not expect all of your staff to be 100% fluent in a second language but they will expect you to take the trouble to have the text scrutinised by a native language proof reader in order to ensure a reasonable level of professionalism.

In some cases considerable skill is required to correct grammar and syntax and to clarify meaning. This requires the ability to rewrite distorted sentences and to replace inappropriate words or phrases without losing the original meaning.

We have years of experience of correcting, revising and rewriting documents from a variety of sources. In addition, knowledge of the mother tongue of the author of the document helps the proof reader to understand why certain mistakes have been made and thus engenders an almost intuitive ability to deduce the author's meaning, particularly with regard to technical matters.

When the original texts are written by native speakers, including professional writers, the same proof reading abilities are required, even if the corrections are less radical.
